Have you come to a crossroads in your life and are now looking for guidance on which path to take? Transitions can lead to new and exciting places but getting started can be totally overwhelming. Sometimes it can seem like the more you look for a solution the further away it seems. Our view can often narrow when we try to look at things through just our own lens and experiences of life. Often just getting one idea or a new perspective can open up doors for new thought and opportunities.
Do you feel as if the wind has been knocked from your sails due to a loss? An illness, death or divorce can totally change even the best laid plans for our life. It’s like being adrift in a boat with no rudder or anchor, not knowing where you’re going, cut off from your life plan, with everything feeling strange and foreign. Sometimes we have been through something similar before that helps give us a bit of guidance to find our way forward. These are times when we need to turn from being the one to give help to receiving help and for some of us that is unchartered waters.
Sometimes this happens because although we make great initial plans and have wonderful intentions time just passes and gets away from us. Sometimes it’s about not finding that job, house or special someone. Sometimes it’s about despite our best efforts, things don’t work out like we had hoped. Coming to that recognition and regaining your confidence and power can be life changing. Gaining skills to mitigate life’s ups and downs can help us not only survive but thrive.
Does it sometimes seem like you get a completely different reaction to what you said than what you were intending? Communication is far tougher than it initially looks and it’s far more important than we recognize. It’s through our communication we can feel heard, understood and connected to others. Great communication skills are paramount in all relationships allowing us to build trust and safety with others. It’s a gift we give ourselves and each other.
Does life seem to have lost its color? Is it like your life was formerly made of living color and now is just shades of gray? You feel bewildered that you can’t seem to feel, that those things that made up your emotions are gone and out of your reach. You wonder why that you no longer find pleasure in the things you used to really enjoy. For Harry Potter fans, it’s like your life is being drained by a Dementor, that every happy memory, every good feeling is being sucked out of you. More than anything you want to be happy and be that person you were. Sometimes we need a guide to help us navigate out of the bleakness that has become our lives.
Do you feel lonely even though you are in a room full of people?
It's common for people who experience Chronic Pain or Chronic Illness to feel judged by other people and sometimes some of the harshest judgement comes from ourselves.
I partner with you to take a holistic look at your current situation and see where to start to begin to relieve and reduce your symptoms. Using tools from my psychological, integrative medicine and trauma trainings and tools I've created, we work together to begin the healing process.
Sometimes we start with simple skill training on how to breathe to connect with your body.
Sometimes we'll look at your thoughts and the thinking that may be hurting you and you'll learn to change those thoughts.
Sometimes we'll look at how you communicate and then work on developing listening skills and how to present information in clear non-defensive ways that promote better problem-solving.
At times it takes putting together a plan of twelve different things to really positively affect our situation. While the journey is challenging, it's possible to not only survive but thrive.
